Generally, a County Committee is the first layer and grassroots foundation a political party. It is made up of ordinary citizens that are elected or appointed, and empowered with powerful rights/powers and responsibilities that play a big role in New Jersey politics.
For most counties in NJ, the County Committee members and delegates or a County Party Chairperson and their executive Committee will give their “ Party Line” endorsement which determines the Primary Ballot Position in a perpendicular line that has each seat up for election as rows.
Many voters tend to vote “Down Ticket”. Candidates who are given the “County Line” endorsement rarely lose the Primary Election.
Overall leadership and participation by the municipalities within a County and the grass roots - ground game strategy directly effects General Election results.
County Committees also fill vacant positions in all Partisan Elected Officials positions between elections (i.e. in event of death or resignation) to fill the vacated seat for the remainder of the unexpired term.
County Committee members are invited to meet with elected officials and candidates, affording opportunities to build relationships, share concerns and vet candidates.
As the grassroots foundation of the party, County Committees are charged with the responsibility of helping candidates win elections. Action items include: registering voters, knocking on doors to inform voters, making phone calls, hosting candidate events, sharing campaign materials and more.
A County Committee is made up of Municipal Committees from each town in the County.
In Camden County, there is one Committeeman and one Committeewoman for every 500 Registered Republican voters.
In Voorhees, there are 5 members 3 women, 2 men as of 2023/2024
